From project management to specialist topic services, Carcinus provides clients with tailored aquatic environmental consultancy solutions, by combining consent and planning advice, project management, data reviews, survey specification and deliver, sample collection and analysis and environmental assessment services.

Our environmental consultants are highly experienced in the project management and delivery of aquatic aspects of Scoping, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitat Regulations Appraisal (HRA) for developers operating in both freshwater and marine aquatic environments. In addition to delivering EIA and HRA aspects of a project, Carcinus delivers associated consent, licensing and permitting requirements including Environmental Statements (ES) and associated Development Consent Order (DCO) supporting documentation. Carcinus also provides services in relation to marine licensing requirements for both pre-consent stage activities such as baseline ecology surveys and support on discharge marine licence conditions during the operational phase of a project.

Carcinus Ecologist Intertidal Survey

East Tipner Environmental Impact Assessment

We were recently contracted to conduct an ecological survey of the intertidal mudflat at East Tipner, Portsmouth. Our client was applying for planning permission to redevelop the brownfield land adjacent to the area, and our survey results have since been used to inform an Environmental Statement in support of the application.

Southport Marine Lake

Carcinus were recently contracted to complete Marine Ecology Surveys and input to the EIA for a new Marine Lake Events Centre in Southport. This survey took the form of a Phase I Habitat Survey, followed by a Secondary Extended Phase I and Fish Ecology survey to characterise the intertidal communities, sediments, and habitats in the area. The surveys were used to inform an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed development, for which Carcinus provided support in the form of scoping and delivery of an Environmental Statement chapter.

Seine Netting Intertidal Fisheries

Intertidal Surveys Heritage Ecosystem Services

Carcinus alongside MSDS Marine recently undertook a two-day public participation intertidal survey on the Sandwich Flats, Kent. The survey focused on four wreck sites and their surrounding environments within the bay. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between the social and economic value of the wrecks and their archaeological heritage and ecological importance.
