Recent Marine Consultancy Projects

Thames Estuary Temporary Berth Installation

Carcinus recently completed an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and Water Framework Directive Assessment in support of a Marine Management Organisation Marine Licence application for planned installation of a temporary berth for building improvement works in the Thames Estuary. Site constraints related to the large-scale refurbishment and construction at a property adjacent to the river would require all plant, materials and debris to moved using river barges. Our marine environmental consultants produced a report describing the existing marine ecological conditions at, and adjacent to, the site, as well as the wider ecological context of the site and its Zone of Influence. Carcinus’ consultants presented an appraisal of the site’s ecological importance, and a detailed assessment of likely impacts resulting from all stages of the Proposed works.

Working Platform Installation on the Thames Estuary

Carcinus’ marine consultants were contracted to deliver a marine EcIA relating to potential impacts on relevant marine ecological receptors for the installation of a working platform in the Thames Estuary. Carcinus also drafted a WFD Assessment for the installation to demonstrate compliance and supported the client in obtaining a Marine Licence. The desk-based study collated existing data about the site and zone of influence, considering benthic ecology, fish, marine mammal, and estuarine bird receptors. Species of Conservation Importance, Invasive or Non-Native species, and Sensitive Receptors were also fully considered. Any potential impacts and the significance of these on marine ecological receptors for all stages of the proposed works were assessed.

This EcIA and WFD assessment is one of two completed for this client in a similar area.

Southport Marine Lake

Carcinus were recently contracted to complete Marine Ecology Surveys and input to the EIA for a new Marine Lake Events Centre in Southport. This survey took the form of a Phase I Habitat Survey, followed by a Secondary Extended Phase I and Fish Ecology survey to characterise the intertidal communities, sediments, and habitats in the area. The surveys were used to inform an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed development, for which Carcinus provided support in the form of scoping and delivery of an Environmental Statement chapter.
